A FREE demonstration by Kim Garrett, who offers classes here at Ely Folk School covering different styles of Rosemaling, such as the Telemark style, known for its graceful scrolls and fantasy flowers. Just stop by Ely Folk School during the times listed below to watch a gifted artist at work, ask questions, and see if you’d like to try your hand at Rosemaling. The Norwegian Folkart of Rosemaling began around 1750 and is a style of decorative painting on wood that uses stylized flower ornamentation, scrollwork, lining, and geometric elements, often in flowing patterns. Rosemaling means “rose or flower painting” in Norwegian.
About the Instructor: Kim Garrett has studied this traditional Scandinavian craft with American master painters and Norwegian rosemaling instructors both here and in Norway since 2007 and has created several award winning pieces.
