Folk School Class: Make Ojibwa or Bear Paw Snowshoes

Peta and snowshoes

Wednesday, February 12, 2020
9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Tuition: $80 Materials: $110
***Students must register by January 28.

You will be emailed the information for selecting the kit for the snowshoe style and size you want to make. Then pick up the kit at the Folk School the day before before class to have time to read through the instruction booklet, which will save time during class. Students can choose from two different styles of traditional snowshoes: Ojibwa or Green Mountain Bear Paw. Kits will include white ash frames, tubular nylon lacing rated 1,400# stress, and an instruction booklet, and you will learn how to lace the snowshoes during class. Students should bring a pencil, Bic lighter, ruler, and sharp scissors or a knife. Peta will provide a wood burning tool should anyone wish to add a simple phrase, date, or design to their frame. Peta will provide discussion and handouts (or electronic docs) with information/resources for the varnishing process and choosing bindings. Bring your own water and snacks and a bag lunch or order lunch from a nearby restaurant.

About the instructor: Peta Barrett is an avid outdoorswoman with 25+ years of wilderness trail experience leading groups in the BWCAW in all seasons. She has had a life-long appreciation for the outdoors! Born and raised Minnesotan, she has always hunted, fished, camped, hiked, biked, paddled, and explored the outdoors. Register Here
